Take Before Photos

Fast Remodeling Tip: Take Before Photos

One of the coolest things you can do for your home remodeling project is to take a lot photos of what everything looks like before you start the remodel. And, when I say "a lot" of photos, I mean lots & lots of photos. With digital cameras and our modern cell phones, you can take a lot of photos without taking up that much storage space.

Taking The Photos

Before The Project Starts

I recommend taking at least four photos of each room getting remodeled - one taken from each corner of the room - looking into the room. I actually took a lot more photos on my project.

Note exactly where you were standing in the house when you snapped the various images. Doing this will allow you to show a time-lapse style sequence over time. It is very cool.

During The Demolition Phase

Take more photos during the demolition phase - from the same vantage points.

The Construction Phase

Take more photos during the construction phase (e.g., wall studs showing, walls being re-located, widened rooms, interesting architectural features being added, etc.).

At Project Completion

Take even more when the remodeling project has been completed.

What You Can Do With The Photos

Doing this, you will have a very cool set of photos you can place side-by-side in a photo album, or transitioning in a video.

Oh And The Proof You Might Need

Another benefit of taking before photos is that if something gets damaged by the General Contractor in an area of your home that is not getting remodeled, you will have proof that the damage occurred during the remodel.
